This wasn't much of an issue for the majority of the series (besides raising the question of what the point of transforming at all is, unless one headcanons that it gives Yugi the confidence to duel better or something) but then during the final arc, it becomes a plot point that Atem, not Yugi, is the who one has been doing all the dueling while Yugi has been sitting back doing nothing, causing Bakura and Kaiba to not respect Yugi
