Aka Omotes orbicular leaves emerge red and keep the color throughout much of the spring, the leaves then fade to a dark emerald color. Aka omote leaves will often take on various shades of red when exposed to the sun. Young stems are somewhat shiny due to the coating of oils that the plant produces.
