John Smart of London Flintlock Pistol Pair Circa 1720 european pistols FM (Assayer's initials)The maker's name is clearly identified by his strongly struck hallmarks on the bottom of both barrels just ahead of the triggerguards. Respected records date his work to the year 1720. During the hand assembly process one triggerguard was placed to that it partially obscured the bottom of one hallmark on one pistol but there is no doubt that the marks on both pistols are the same.
