It was rescued from the discarded pieces when cleaning up the Pā Harakeke

Poro means to be cut off  or trimmed and Kowhai means yellow

The whenu has been boiled and dyed (various shades of blue) to preserve it. Phekoheko refers to the idea of unity; be that with the land and sea. Or, two entities uniting.
