Antique Japanese Edo Era c1850's Clothing Tansu Chest Kiri Wood 34.5" Sake In beautiful cobalt blue glazeThis is an antique Japanese kimono chest or Ishodansu finished in a rich chocolate brown. This chest was made in the late Edo era (c. 1850's) of all kiri wood (paulownia). Ishodansu were used to store precious kimono, obi and accessories. This tansu has two main drawers with another three inside the safe. Behind one of those three drawers is a secret compartment for the most valuable of possessions. This tansu is made with pegged tenon open mortise
